The people of St. Luke’s love using our musical talents to glorify God. We have many opportunities for you to take part in our music ministry this year, whether you are singing, playing instruments, or joining us for a concert. Our Sanctuary Choir gathers to practice on Wednesdays at 7PM, and our Bell Choir meets on Wednesdays at 6PM. All are welcome to join us!
2019-2020 Concert Series at St. Luke’s
First Concert: Thursday, September 12, at 7PM in the Sanctuary – Mr. Chad Martin will provide organ accompaniment for one of the greatest silent films of all time, “The General.” With its debut in 1926, the film depicts a young, rejected soldier, (Buster Keaton), during the Civil War, who has to risk his life to save his two great loves: his locomotive and his girl! Come experience the thrill found in silent film….the chases, the slapstick comedy, and true love. All ages are welcome!
Second Concert: Friday, October 11, at 7PM in the Sanctuary – Dr. Russell Floyd (clarinet), Mrs. Laura Floyd (soprano), and Dr. Gerald Anderson (piano) of Hilton Head will be presenting the second concert in St. Luke’s 2019-2020 Concert Series. Mrs. Floyd was the featured soprano at Carnegie Hall in Mark Hayes’ International Carol Suites . Dr. Anderson not only performs as a solo pianist, clinician, adjudicator, accompanist, and church musician, he has also been featured on television shows such as “Thirty Good Minutes” out of Chicago. Dr. Floyd has performed extensively throughout the U. S. He is currently the co-principal clarinetist of the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, and is the conductor of the annual community-wide performance of Handel’s Messiah which is performed at First Presbyterian Church, Hilton Head, SC.
Third Concert: Friday, December 6, at 7:30PM in the Sanctuary – St. Luke’s will host the Charleston Symphony Orchestra Holiday Brass Concert. Tickets are available for purchase on the Charleston Symphony Orchestra website: charlestonsymphony.org.
Fourth Concert: Sunday, February 23, at 4PM in the Sanctuary – St. Luke’s will host a Musical Variety Show anchored by the duo piano team of Li’L Entertainment, featuring the Looney & Ingram families with the sensational Soprano, Bailey Slice Parker, and South Carolina’s Champion Fiddle and Guitar player for 2017-2019, Jim Graddick. The show will incorporate Broadway, Swing, Light Classics, Big Band, Bluegrass, Country, Tap Dance, Pop Vocals, Love Songs, Christmas in February, and popular Strauss March for 29 fingers! The concert is free, and doors open at 3:30PM.
Join us for future concerts at St. Luke’s, including The Three Baritones, and our very own St. Luke’s Sanctuary Choir in a Festive Patriotic Concert.
The Children at St. Luke’s love gathering together to prepare musicals and pageants each year. This Fall, we have an opportunity for all children in 1st-6th Grade to take part in a musical called “Oh Jonah!” An audition will take place on September 10, 2019 at 6PM in the Fellowship Hall, where kids will be introduced to the story of Jonah, asked to sing something simple like, “Jesus Loves Me,” and will be asked to read a line or two from the musical. A snack will be provided. Regular musical rehearsals after that will be held on Tuesday evenings with a show date of November 17, 2019.
Lutheroad Day Camp
All are welcome to be a part of Lutheroad Day Camp at St. Luke’s each summer. This is a week-long camp for children in Kindergarten through 5th Grade. It runs Monday through Thursday, 9AM-4PM, and Friday 9AM-12PM. Lutheroad Day Camp provides an opportunity for children to perform skits, sing songs, play group-building games, make crafts, and have a fun time learning about Jesus!
